the inevitability of deconstruction following the wear of a drag and/or makeup is fascinating to me. I like to consider the performance of unconventional makeup and style an ephemeral art, as it must be unrendered and reimagined according to the wearer's taste and creativity. As an artist who considers my everyday manner of dress an opportunity to utilize my physicality as a canvas, I've become very reliant on dressing up and attending school in condensed versions of my drag. It allows me to invest tenderness and care into my wellbeing, gives me motivation to wake up, don a metaphorical sense of armor with which I can confront the imminent stressors and anxieties that come with being out in public every day. It is my greatest, most simple joy to be able to collect clothes and makeup. It is also my choice to make my personal joys a matter that can be perceived and judged by others’ eyes
Fortunately, the digitization of practically everything also ensures I have a means of archiving my makeup and ensembles in an accessible, online manner. It not only allows me to reflect on the looks I’ve done, but compare them side-by-side so that I can conceive new ideas by cataloging them permanently. My project intends to celebrate my love for artistic expression, drag and fashion and portray a version of this archiving that makes my personal pleasures a passion accessible to others. It also cycles through the random combination of my makeup and clothes in such a manner that makes it difficult to discern a singular look, indicating an overwhelm at the prospects of endless possibilities and forcing the viewer to see something new amidst the cycling archives looks beneath the distortion of my primary mode of creativity, fine art.
